Anatoly Liberman

Anatoly Liberman is Professor in the Department of German, Nordic, Dutch and Slavic at the University of Minnesota, USA (since 1975). Born and educated in Leningrad (St. Petersburg); obtained DPhil from the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union in 1972. Anatoly Liberman has received numerous awards for his work, including the Guggenheim fellowship and the Fulbright research fellowship. He has authored over 650 publications, sixteen of them books. He is equally at ease in historical linguistics (phonology and etymology), medieval literature, mythology, folklore, poetic translation, and literary criticism.
